Corporate Controller

Job Location: Nashville, TN


Gibson Brands, Inc. (f/k/a Gibson Guitar Corp), the world’s premier manufacturer of musical instruments and professional audio equipment, is seeking a Corporate Controller to join the Finance team. The Corporate Controller will report directly to the Vice President Finance & Accounting and be based out of Gibson’s World Headquarters in beautiful Nashville, TN – The Music City.

The Corporate Controller is responsible for the divisional accounting duties to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results. The position is also responsible for leading, organizing, directing and controlling the work of accounting personnel in collecting, summarizing, and interpreting financial data for the use of management, creditors, and taxing authorities. Directs budget and cost controls and accounting practices. Helps develop forecasts for proposed projects, measures actual performance against operating plans and standards and interprets the results of operations for all levels of management.

  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies & procedures.
  • Provides leadership to the international finance and accounting team regarding technical accounting questions and updates the organization on changes to critical accounting policies and procedures.
  • Preparation and review of monthly financial performance (revenue, operating profit and cash). Review monthly reconciliations and journal entries to assure accurate financial information is generated and proper internal controls are in place, in accordance with GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, and Gibson policies and procedures.
  • Provides guidance to the global management team supporting strategic decisions, capacity planning, capital requests, standard costs, variance analysis, physical inventories, operational metrics, ERP systems, reserve requirements, and other management objectives.
  • Protects assets by establishing and monitoring the implementation and maintenance of internal controls and procedures.
  • Provides financial and accounting leadership, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration support for special projects.
  • Analyzes financial and operational information to determine the most efficient use of resources and capital. Develops strategic recommendations and solutions to the operational units and senior management team.
  • Assists achieving budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
  • Actively participates in initiatives and special projects as required by senior management, divisional leadership, and corporate.
  • Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by keeping up to date on existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation and enforcing adherence to requirements.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of new procedures and processes to enhance the productivity, efficiency and workflow if the Finance Department.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of public accounting and/or manufacturing experience is required.
  • International accounting experience is preferred and international consolidation experience is a plus.
  • Accounting systems experience with Great Plains, Dynamics AX, and Hyperion.
  • Management experience in leading accounting professionals and interfacing cross-functional teams is required.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work, establish and execute plans to meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and work under pressure with a strong attention to details is required.
