Manufacturing Process Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The job of Manufacturing Process Engineer is to design, integrate, or improve manufacturing systems or related processes. Essential responsibilities include performing troubleshooting tasks for the finishing process.  May work with commercial or industrial designers to refine product designs to increase productivity and decrease costs. Will work closely with paint/finishing, wood manufacturing, and safety processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major responsibilities of the position are listed below.  To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Perform characterization, optimization, and troubleshooting of formulation, filling and finishing processes.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of paint/finishing, woodworking, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Provide technical support for non-conformances during routine manufacturing, as well as change control assessments.
  • Determine root causes of failures/manufacturing issues using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
  • Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
  • Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.
  • Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 7-10+ years engineering or related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with paint/finishing in a wood product manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience with Computer aided design CAD software —  Autodesk AutoCAD software; Dassault Systemes CATIA software; Pro-E CAD software; SolidWorks CAD software
  • Enterprise resource planning ERP software —  Product lifecycle management PLM software
  • Industrial control software — Computer numerical control CNC software; Programmable logic controller PLC software
  • Project management software — Microsoft Project; SolidWorks Enterprise PDM
  • Knowledge of gas chromatography is a plus.
  • Spectrophotometer experience is desirable.
