Executive Vice President Global Business Development

Gibson Brands, Inc. (f/k/a Gibson Guitar Corp), the world’s premier manufacturer of musical instruments and professional audio equipment, is seeking an Executive Vice President of Global Business Development.  The EVP will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and leads Business Development globally. This position will be responsible for partnering with the CEO, EVP Divisional Operations, GM’s and other key internal & external stakeholders to develop and execute strategies to create deep and lasting customer partnerships. The EVP must be the visionary thought leader for the global Business Development function and possess the ability to establish strategic direction, develop & flawlessly execute plans and inspire others to deliver desired results. 

Primary Position Responsibilities:
  • Partners with the CEO to develop global Business Development strategies to support both the long term vision and shorter term goals & objectives of the organization (maximizing market share, revenue growth, profitability growth and EBITA).
  • Leads the global Business Development organization consisting of Presidents of Regions, Business Development Managers, Relationship Managers and Product Specialists.
  • Leads the development and implementation of strategies and tactics to establish and maintain deep and lasting relationships with customers. Assures the correct infrastructure, systems, data analytics, processes, and people are in place to drive consistent accomplishment of this goal.
  • Leads ongoing development, modification and execution of standard sales processes and procedures via a global sales manual that details what we sell, to whom we sell, how we sell, where we sell, why we sell, how we lead and manage those who sell. Swiftly takes action to address areas that are not following the established processes and procedures.
  • Develops and implements a systematic process for tracking and reporting on the progress of establishing true partnerships with customers. Assess and reports on the progress made with each customer to ensure the entire organization is all working towards the common goal. Swiftly takes action to correct underperforming areas.
  • In conjunction with their team, serves as one of the primary relationship managers with customers to create deep and lasting partnerships. Also collaborates with GM’s and other internal stakeholders to ensure their active involvement with customers.
  • Develops standardized forecast models for customers incorporating business intelligence and forecast information gathered from BDMs, marketing, retailer velocity & inventory turns reports, industry metric reports and other internal & external sources.
  • Partners with customers and internal stakeholders (Product Managers, Marketing, etc.) on the development of the product portfolio and ensures a smooth and efficient transition from previous year product offerings to new model year product offerings.
  • Partners closely with Marketing on the identification of emerging and underdeveloped markets and on the development of holistic (sales, product management, public relations, entertainment relations, advertising, etc.) plans to enter into said markets.
  • Partners closely with Marketing to identify opportunities to further penetrate developed markets and on the development of holistic (same as above) plans to further penetrate said markets.
  • Leads the Business Development short-term and long-range planning process and budget development process.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in business or marketing or related field required, MBA Strongly preferred
  • 10+ plus years of global business development at the executive level with multiple product lines is required
  • Proven track record in establishing deep and lasting customer partnerships
  • Fully grasps and embraces the power of data analytics and readily utilizes data from various sources to support decision making. Possesses compelling numerical and analytical skills
  • Challenges the status quo, proven track record of driving change and teaching & motivating individuals to develop & implement new ways of thinking and doing business
  • Genuine understanding of brands and their power in the marketplace
  • Experience with CPG or higher price point brands (luxury and/or lifestyle) in retail is required
  • Very results oriented and takes ownership of goals and objectives
  • Ability to identify and highlight issues early on and quickly develop and execute plans to address.
  • Highly effective collaborator with internal as well as external resources
