Gibson Brands, Inc., the world’s premier musical instrument manufacturer and the home of such preeminent brands as Gibson, Epiphone, Baldwin and Wurlitzer, is looking for a Neck Prep Technician. This position is based in Memphis, TN, home of founders and pioneers of various American music genres, including Memphis soul, Memphis blues, gospel, rock n roll, Buck, crunk and ‘sharecropper’ country music.
This position requires removing debris such as paint, lacquer and filler from between frets on the guitar using files hand scrapers, razor blades, sandpaper, steel wool, naptha and linseed oil. Process will be repeated until all imperfections are removed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Peel protective masking tape off of fingerboard and string nut. Remove any machine marks and all excess paint from frets and fingerboard surface utilizing files hand scrapers, razor blades, sandpaper, steel wool, naptha and linseed oil.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Position requires extensive lifting up to 20lbs, reaching and bending from the waist.
Must be able to stand on feet for 8 to 10 hours per day.
Must be able to grasp hand tools and perform repetitive operations throughout the assigned shift.
Experienced with detail level work including scraping, sanding and polishing.
Must be able to inspect for flaws and perform small repairs if necessary on fingerboards.
Report quality issues to Supervisor.
Meet or exceed production goals.
Must be able to stand on feet for 8 – 10 hours per day. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. Requires utilization of hand tools in a repetitive motion. The position exists in a fast paced environment. Work is conducted in a loud and dusty environment.
