BLUES SHUFFLES PLUS TURNAROUND LICK
martes, 28 de junio de 2011

Here’s a lesson assignment aimed at you more “beginner” players, who need to develop a strong foundation in rhythm guitar playing.

For this month’s assignment, I simply want you to show me your approach to playing a “blues shuffle” rhythm lick, and then how you flow into the “turnaround” lick from that shuffle. The blues should be of the 12-bar variety, using the I-IV-V chords, and the key doesn’t matter. The turnaround lick, which occupies the final 2 measures of the 12-bar Blues can be of thestandard variety, or you can try to be a bit more inventive than that…whichever suits you best.

I’ll be looking for some real subtleties here, so please be sure to submit a piece that truly reflects the best you can do. Good luck with it, and I can’t wait to see you responses! Thanks!

Arlen Roth

Here’s how it works:
Every month, Arlen will give an assignment. Fans of all experience levels can post a YouTube video of them incorporating that lesson into a short performance piece and then submit the link, along with a few related pieces of information, to Gibson.com. Arlen will view the performance, grade it and offer a few notes of advice or commentary. A printable report card (or “diploma”) will then be emailed to each participating player.

ARLEN ROTH’S STUDENT OF THE MONTH
The top performance of each month will be christened “Arlen Roth’s Student of the Month” and have his/her video posted on the Arlen Roth page on Gibson.com. Winners will receive a gift pack from the Gibson Store.

ARLEN ROTH’S CLASS VALEDICTORIAN
At the end of the year, a Class Valedictorian will be chosen. This top student will receive a one-of-a-kind certificate of achievement and a brand new Gibson guitar!
