The Classic Rock and Roll Boogie Rhythm

This is an exciting “one-man band” kind of rhythm style, and will take some major right-hand discipline to execute properly. But when you do, you’ll find this to be an extremely exciting and rewarding way to play.

The difficult down-up patterns of the rhythm will be discussed, as well as the very piano-like “guitar boogie” feel. This style combines bass notes along with rhythm guitar, and involves some subtle, yet critical shifting of left hand positions that can be quite challenging.

We will be working in the key of E, also using the A and B7 chords and runs to complete the 12-bar I-IV-V pattern that is always associated with this great style of playing. I will also show you how to substitute and “stab” certain chords into just the right spots within these patterns for the hottest results!—Arlen Roth
