This is a great “hybrid” picking technique that uses a real split-string effect to achieve its most effective end. You can use it as a blues-oriented style, as well as country, and it is extremely effective at all tempos. It’s also a great “snarly” effect when you really want to add a twangy and powerful sound to your soloing and fills.

Open G tuning is a very flexible open tuning and is used often in Slide guitar as well as in country blues styles. One of the most important things to keep in mind with open tunings is how the licks and chord positions are altered.

Hybrid picking is what I always refer to as "pick and finger.” An extremely versatile and flexible technique, it allows you to combine the best of both worlds: flatpicking and fingerpicking together! This is great for learning the great piano-style licks of Buddy Guy, and the great pedal-steel sounds of Clarence White of the Byrds.

Today I’m going to talk about combining harmonics with certain chord positions. Harmonics can be found all over the guitar, and it’s something u should experiment with when you have time.

I call it the “Jingle Bell Rock” chord and I can’t be sure but it sounds like it could have originally been played by Hank Garland- but I don’t know for sure. You have your root on top, a Major 3rd, your 2nd, which gives it that great ‘50s voicing, and then a natural 7th. And it sounds great. And it makes it a great chord to slide up an down so you have to get used to the position because as you slide up and down you have to adjust that spread of your fingers as the freeboard gets narrow and wider.
