Here’s a great application of the “hybrid” style of picking, added to Chuck Berry-style licks. This is a great lick that I first picked up in this manner from the great Danny Gatton. It involves a wonderful kind of syncopation that is strictly established by the “hybrid” picking style. As you’ll see, it creates a kind of “circular” motion to the lick, with a nicely “pedaled” root note.
