Hi, this is Arlen Roth and today we are going to look at 9th chord bends. These are fairly unusual and you don’t see them taught very often. I’m doing two types of bends today, three if you count all the positions.
I’m taking the full 9th cord and playing it with four fingers, which is very important. I like to use it sometimes as a lick. For example, if I’m in A and I’m playing some blues I’ll push the whole chord just like I’m playing with a slide. Now watch me pass from Eb9th to D. It’s very much the T-Bone Walker style. Now, watch how I play “Sleepwalk.”
Practice bending the 9th chords and experiment with new sounds. And have fun.
Until next time, —Arlen Roth
