Cat Scratch Fever
In this lesson, Mike Pachelli takes a look at “Cat Scratch Fever” by Ted Nugent. This song was released in 1977, off the album of the same name.
Never one to shy away from controversy, “Cat Scratch Fever” is a song Nugent supposedly wrote about the woes of an STD. VH1 deemed “Cat Scratch Fever” the 32nd best hard rock song of all time.
Ted Nugent was born in Detroit in 1948. His first nationwide claim to fame was as the lead guitarist for the Amboy Dukes. His prominent, psychedelic licks were featured in the song, “Journey to the Center of the Mind.” The coolest thing about that recording is Nugent’s usage of a Gibson Byrdland! If you’re not familiar with this guitar, it is a thin line archtop, co-designed by Billy Byrd and Hank Garland, and it was aimed at jazz and country players. Prone to feedback, Nugent figured out how to use this to his advantage and was able to sustain notes very effectively for 1967!

Mike plays a Gibson Custom ES-335 Block Inlay in the lesson.

Mike Pachelli
Mike Pachelli started playing guitar as a youngster in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. His earliest influence was Wes Montgomery who Mike says, "first opened my ears to the possibilities on guitar." Pachelli studied classical guitar at YSU and then moved to New York City to study bebop with guitar luminaries Joe Pass and Pat Martino. Mike's guitar style is an amalgamation of blues, jazz, rock, and neo-classical. He has a wealth of musical experience gained thru years of night clubs, concert halls, and recording studios. He's performed all over the U.S. and Europe with some of the most eclectic jazz, blues, pop and rock musicians including Brother Jack McDuff, Albert King, Les & Larry Elgart, Michael Sembello, Crystal Gayle, Barbara Mandrell, Jeanne Mas, Phil Keaggy, Frank Stallone (to name a few) and has done classical symphony concerts touring with Ferrante and Teicher.
