Jessie's Girl
Mike Pachelli takes a look at "Jessie’s Girl" by Australian singer/songwriter Rick Springfield. The song was released in 1981 on Springfield's Working Class Dog album. Earlier that same year, Springfield took an acting job on the soap opera General Hospital. He had already recorded his album in 1980, but RCA records didn't think anything would happen with it.

After its release, "Jessie's Girl" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and General Hospital became the #1 soap. The song was also #1 when MTV launched in 1981.

The girl depicted in "Jessie's Girl" was never publicly identified. When asked, Rick says it was "the girlfriend of a classmate of his." He's also said that the real girl who inspired the song has no idea that the song was written for her.

During the success of "Jessie’s Girl," Rick Springfield remained on General Hospital for 3 years and juggled his acting career with a busy tour schedule. He went on to have 4 more top U.S. hits, continues to tour, and do guest spots on General Hospital.

Mike plays a Epiphone Limited Edition "1966" Worn Wilshire with Tremotone™ Vibrato in the lesson.

Mike Pachelli
Mike Pachelli started playing guitar as a youngster in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. His earliest influence was Wes Montgomery who Mike says, "first opened my ears to the possibilities on guitar." Pachelli studied classical guitar at YSU and then moved to New York City to study bebop with guitar luminaries Joe Pass and Pat Martino. Mike's guitar style is an amalgamation of blues, jazz, rock, and neo-classical. He has a wealth of musical experience gained thru years of night clubs, concert halls, and recording studios. He's performed all over the U.S. and Europe with some of the most eclectic jazz, blues, pop and rock musicians including Brother Jack McDuff, Albert King, Les & Larry Elgart, Michael Sembello, Crystal Gayle, Barbara Mandrell, Jeanne Mas, Phil Keaggy, Frank Stallone (to name a few) and has done classical symphony concerts touring with Ferrante and Teicher.
