Weekend Wars
In this lesson, Trent Swartzentruber will teach you how to play “Weekend Wars” by MGMT. The song was featured on the album, Oracular Spectacular, which was released in 2007. The album was the first major label release for the band, and has sold over 1 million copies worldwide. The album was named number 494 of Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest albums of all time.
The band originally formed while the members attended Wesleyan University. After graduating in 2005, they began touring shortly thereafter. In 2006, they were signed to Columbia Records, after a call from the A&R department, which they mistook for a prank call. By 2007, they had recorded their first album with the label and began touring heavily. In 2008, they were a supporting band on tour with Radiohead. “Weekend Wars” was also featured on the album along with hits like, “Kids,” “Electric Feel,” and “Time To Pretend.”

Trent plays a Gibson Custom Les Paul R7 Goldtop in the lesson.
