Lately we’ve been hearing rumors indicating that U2 is getting ready to release a new album next year. Bassist Adam Clayton has said that he’d like recording to be completed before the holidays. There are also whispers that the band will announce album number thirteen with an ad during the Super Bowl on February 2, with a supposed release sometime in April. Whether any of these rumors turn out to be true remains to be seen, but it does pose the question: Do we really need a new U2 album?

Two years ago, Mojo magazine asked singer-songwriter Paul Simon to name the artists he considered to be in the “top pantheon” of popular songwriters. Simon paused for a moment, and then replied: “I’d put Gershwin, Berlin, and Hank Williams. I’d probably put Paul McCartney in there too. Then I’d have Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. One of the biggest surprises of the year so far was the announcement of Scott Weiland leaving Stone Temple Pilots, after being their front man since 1986 apart from their hiatus between 2003 and 2008. But even more surprising was the announcement of Weiland’s replacement - Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington. Reactions from fans have been both positive and negative. So let’s take a look at what Bennington is able to bring to the table versus what was lost when Weiland was let go. Let the battle of the fans begin! The main filming for All is By My Side is almost done, with the movie team hoping for it to debut at Utah’s Sundance film festival in January 2013. But is a Jimi biopic a good idea? The proof, of course, will be in All is By My Side’s final cut, but here some pros and cons to consider.
