Over the recent August Bank Holiday weekend, the annual Reading and Leeds festivals took place. Over 200,000 people came to the twin holy grails of British rock festivals to watch bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Arcade Fire, The Libertines, Queens of the Stone Age, Blink-182, Pendulum, Paramore, Klaxons, Weezer, The Gaslight Anthem, Band of Horses, Dizzee Rascal, Modest Mouse, The Cribs, The Maccabees, You Me at Six, Biffy Clyro and Little Fish take to the world famous main stages.

This weekend, FOX News aired a feature on Music Rising. Music Rising was founded by U2’s The Edge, legendary producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz with the mission to replace lost or destroyed instruments for schools, churches, community programs and musicians of the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. The FOX News feature chronicles how Music Rising continues to help to resurrect the music scene that is such an integral part of New Orleans’ culture and economy. Music Rising is administered by the Gibson Foundation.

Jimmy Fallon, host of the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Show, performed throughout last night’s ceremonies at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles with several of his favorite Gibson Acoustic guitars. Fallon wowed the audience with versions of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” and other choice riffs accompanied by his celebrity friends and some hilarious characters he played on his own.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Quiksilver are proud to present the Quiksilver British Surf Championships at Fistral Beach, Newquay, England. The annual event will be held over the Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday 28th to Sunday 29th August 2010) where the best surfers across Britain, including Russell Winter (former European champion), Alan Stokes (U.K. Tour Champion), Toby Donachie (former British champion) and current British junior champ Luke Dillon, will be competing to win titles in the British Men’s Open. Gibson Guitar has once again generously donated a Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar as the champion’s trophy.

When Slash headed down under in April to launch MTV Classic, he promised he would be back — and come back he did! At the final show of his Australian tour, at a sold-out Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, he did not disappoint. With Myles Kennedy on vocals and a tight backing band, Slash ripped through a 20-song set that included songs from Velvet Revolver, Slash's Snakepit, Guns N' Roses and the new self-titled album.

Guitar Town Sunset Strip, a public art project featuring 26 10-foot-tall Les Paul guitars placed along Hollywood’s famous Sunset Strip, was unveiled last week. The event kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and vintage car parade along Sunset Boulevard.

The Alarm’s Mike Peters pulled off a remarkable weekend for his charity, Love Hope Strength, hosting a 6.00 a.m. hike up a very wet and windy Mt. Snowdon with 150 trekkers, followed by a sell-out concert at Rhuddlan Castle on the same day. Epiphone was one of the proud brand supporters of the Love Hope Strength Foundation Snowdon expedition and provided Mike Peters with an Epiphone Masterbilt Acoustic. Peters took the guitar up the mountain to play a few numbers to his fellow climbers before the big gig at the castle later in the day.
