Texas State Musician Shelley King Visits Japan with her 'Elvis'

Austin musician Shelley King, the current Texas State Musician, jams on her beautiful Gibson Elvis Presley King of Rock J-200 acoustic guitar with the president of Gibson Japan, Yasuhiko Iwanade, and fellow Austin musician and frequent band mate Carolyn Wonderland at Gibson Japan Showroom/Studio in Ginza, Tokyo, on February 9, during her first tour in Japan.

Roots-rock singer-songwriter King, who tours all over America, Canada and Europe, and Wonderland, guitarist extraordinaire, enjoyed “Guitar Talk” with Iwanade during the showroom visit.

King was named Texas State Musician, the first female so honored, with a reception hosted by Gibson Austin in April 2008, during which she was presented the Elvis guitar. Her long list of awards includes Austin Music Awards Song of the Year for Austin vocalist Toni Price’s version of “Call of My Heart” and AMA Best Roots Rock Band in 2005.
