John Lennon had arrived in New York in September 1971 for a short visit with Yoko Ono. Basically, the trip was set up so that Yoko could look for her daughter, Kyoko, who had been kidnapped by her father during his and Yoko’s custody battle. They didn’t find Kyoko, but Lennon, in particular, found peace in New York and rediscovered moments of the kind of anonymity he’d long lost in his homeland.

Pickup Joint: Magnets Decoded

When you really get down to it, a pickup is simply a magnet with a bunch of wire wrapped around it. The magnet creates its own magnetic field (obviously) and the guitar string interacts with that field, and this is translated by the coil of wire, and then some stuff happens in an amp, and then an audience gets rocked.
