Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has heard a good deal of “mopey rock” as of late, and he’s not a fan. At all. “There’s a lot of music around that’s just celebrating a mopey attitude. It gets passed off as authentic, and I just don’t like that …” Marr told NME. “Which might sound ironic coming from the guitar player who formed the Smiths -- but the music was always intense in whatever direction it was goin’ in, and I’m all for intensity. Weedy, mopey … we weren’t.”

A meaty six-CD set of the Velvet Underground's 1969 self-titled third album will hit stores on Nov. 24. The Velvet Underground: 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition will offer two stereo mixes, a mono mix, a CD of recordings that were intended to make the band’s fourth release and two discs of live songs for two San Francisco shows that took place in November of 1969.

Whitesnake fans, rejoice: The ‘80s rockers have announced they will release a live compilation album on Nov. 11, packed with rare live video and audio, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the band’s Slide It In album. The new release, called Live in '84 -- Back to the Bone, features a bevy of material from singer David Coverdale’s collection. Look for it to arrive as a DVD and deluxe DVD/CD package.

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor spent much of last summer on tour with Soundgarden, treating fans to his trademark live set of pulsating lighting and electronic beats. These days, Reznor spends just as much time crafting music for film soundtracks as he does Nine Inch Nails, and the soundtrack to his latest project, Gone Girl, is available now via all digital retailers. The soundtrack, which Reznor composed with Atticus Ross, will arrive on CD and vinyl later this fall on Columbia Records.
