Dallas Man Fights for Justice for His Cerwin Vegas

A Dallas man who sold a pair of vintage Cerwin Vega speakers is haggling with UPS over damages done to his precious cargo. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, John Saxon paid UPS to ship the speakers to John Hoogvliet, who lives in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. There’s nothing unusual about a package sustaining damage, of course, but what makes this case extraordinary is the esteem in which both men hold the Cerwin Vegas.

In 2013 Gibbons and Montana collaborated on the fist-in-air anthem, “This Beard Came Here to Party,” and since then Montana and his band, the Shrednecks, have opened for the ZZ Top on tour. Meanwhile, Montana is working with Gibson to design a custom guitar to honor Chris Kyle, the man who inspired the hit film, American Sniper. On May 1, coinciding with a Montana performance in Fort Worth, Texas, the guitar will be auctioned to benefit soldiers afflicted with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Guitarist/Music Radar recently offered up a “mini tribute” to the Les Paul Deluxe. Accompanied by a beautiful photograph of a 1972 model, the article presents a brief history of the instrument, beginning with its introduction in 1969. Originally fitted with mini-humbuckers, the Deluxe was played by Thin Lizzy’s Scott Gorham, among others.
