Metallica’s Lars Ulrich says the band has written nearly 20 songs for their next studio album—with the production phase imminent. “In our world, there’s been a distinct difference between the creative phase and the recording phase,” he recently told Rolling Stone. “With this project, we’re trying to bridge the two a little more organically and not have there be such a great divide between the processes.”

Asked which guitar he would save from a burning building, the former Smiths six-stringer replied, “My red Gibson ES-355. It’s the most famous of the guitars I own, so I’d have to grab that one.”
