Photographer/author Lisa S. Johnson is publishing a new book in September 2013. It’s a collection called 108 Rock Star Guitars - intimate portraits of the cherished guitars owned by Les Paul, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Lou Reed, Carlos Santana, Bruce Springsteen, Nancy Wilson, Bonnie Raitt, Rick Nielsen, Slash, Jack White, Billy Gibbons, Ace Frehley and many others.
The book has taken Johnson 17 years to complete. So long, in fact, that the late Les Paul wrote the introduction back in 2009. It’s a 396-page art book, bound in embossed red leatherette, and features 300 images of iconic guitars.
“I remember the first black-and-white pictures Lisa took of my guitars… they were wonderfully evocative,” writes the late Les Paul in the book’s foreword. “I never could have guessed that she would one day produce the extensive, impressive collection of photographs presented here - images unlike any I have ever seen. Lisa’s passion for her subject is evident on every page of this magnificent book.”
108 Rock Star Guitars is priced at $108. A limited edition version is $540. Both editions will include a 16-page booklet, “The Inspiration Behind 108 Rock Star Guitars.” A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Les Paul Foundation. More at 108RockStarGuitars.com.
