Fans who held onto their tickets for a Who show cancelled 33 years ago in Rhode Island received good news on Thursday.

The Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, will honor those tickets when The Who return to that same venue on February 26, 2013, during their Quadrophenia tour.

The 1979 show was cancelled by then-Mayor Buddy Cianci, who cited safety concerns in the wake of a tragedy in Cincinnati in which 11 concert-goers were killed in a stampede. The current venue manager, Lawrence Lepore, says many 1979 ticketholders turned in their tickets for refunds, but others may have retained them as memorabilia. “Somewhere, someplace, someone’s got it stashed,” he said. “The question is, are they willing to give that up? If they are, we’re willing to take it.” Lepore said holders of the 1979 tickets can phone his office to make the exchange.

Any proceeds garnered from the 1979 tickets will be donated to raise money for the Special Olympics of Rhode Island.
