The NBC television network is said to be developing an eight-part miniseries chronicling the history of The Beatles. As reported by Deadline Hollywood, the series is being written and executive-produced by Michael Hirst, best known as the creator and executive producer of Showtime’s The Tudors.
NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt has given the project his blessing. Meanwhile, The Beatles’ first nine U.K. albums, from 1963’s Please Please Me through 1968’s The Beatles (aka the White Album), will be released September 9 in mono on vinyl.
The newly remastered albums will be housed in a 14-LP box set and will also be available for individual purchase. The box set includes a 108-page hard cover book, essays, rare photos and details about how the albums were mastered. Former Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick has famously maintained that the mono mixes for The Beatles’ albums were superior to their stereo counterparts.
