It's like a scene from Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous, when the guitarist in Stillwater gets a ride from his fans. That's what happened to Dave Matthews when he was playing Hershey Park with Dave Matthews Band over the weekend. Matthews had gone out for a pre-show mountain bike ride when his tire blew. Dave, who hadn't brought a cell phone was left standing by the side of the road waiting for someone to stop and help him.
As luck would have it, Emily Kraus and her boyfriend, who were on their way to the DMB show, saw a man stranded by the side of the road, and stopped to help. Imagine their surprise when the stranded bike rider turns out to be tonight's headliner! Emily, who had just gotten a bike rack for her car, gave Matthews a ride to the venue. Matthews in turn thanked the couple by taking them out to dinner and giving them front row tickets for the show. He even mentioned the event from the stage, saying: "I did not have a cell phone on the bicycle. So I thought, 'S**t,' and then a nice lady named Emily rode up in a red car with a bicycle rack on it and gave me a ride on to the gig." Matthews also signed the pair's concert tickets with the message "Thanks for the ride."
Dave Matthews Band's next stop is in Tampa, FL, on July 17, and hopefully Dave will remember to bring a cell phone if he decides to go for a bike ride before the show.
