Funk Brother The Tennessean newspaper reports that Bob Babbitt, who played bass in Motown’s Funk Brothers, has died in a Nashville hospice facility after a fight with brain cancer. He was 74.

Babbitt’s cool bass playing can be heard on most Motown tracks from the late ’60s and early ’70s including, “Ball of Confusion (That’s What the World is Today),” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” and “The Tears of a Clown.”

In later years, Babbitt’s work could be heard on cuts form the likes of Frank Sinatra, Bette Midler and Jim Croce.
