George Jones Biopic Coming
A movie based on the life of country legend George Jones is on its way, after the rights to it were acquired by production company 28 Entertainment.
Jones, widely considered to be one of the greatest country singers, died in April 2013 aged 81. He held a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and his greatest hits include “She Thinks I Still Care” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.”
For a short while in the ‘70s, Jones was married to Tammy Wynette resulting in a string of duet albums and singles, and the pair becoming known as “The President and First Lady of country music.” It is Jones’s fourth wife, Nancy Sepulvado, who has been involved with the writing of the biopic. Until their marriage in 1983, Jones struggled with alcoholism and bankruptcy, but claimed that Nancy helped to turn his life around in his final 30 years.
Producer Dennis L. Baxter came on board six years ago, and Jones and Sepulvado both couple agreed to the project. Sepulvado says: “George and I started working with Dennis six years ago in crafting the life-long story. Knowing George had input in this film and that it will be told the way he wanted it told, I feel we are in good hands to collaborate with 28 Entertainment as we move forward with production.”
Jones had been working closely with Baxter on the movie, and had wanted to see it before his death. Not to be, but the movie will be out in the next year.
