Green Day surprised fans in Australia on 20 February by playing a tiny pub gig 45 minutes after announcing the show on Twitter.
The band took to the microblogging site at 10:15pm to announce they would be hitting the stage at The Captain Cook Hotel in Paddington, Sydney, at 11pm.
The message read: "hello Aussie! Green Day is playing tonight at a club called Captain Cook Hotel Tonight in Sydney. I repeat, Tonight! Feb 20th around 11:00pm."
Fans dashed to the venue for the free show. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong walked out on stage and said, “I guess a few of you saw the tweet.”
It was a warm-up show for Green Day’s headline appearance at the Soundwave festival.
