Here’s one of the more bizarre news reports in a while. Reclusive ex Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante is supposedly making a guest appearance on Duran Duran’s upcoming album. Ultimate-Guitar reports that Frusciante talked about the collaboration during an interview with Japanese Guitar Magazine.
It is a bold move for Frusciante, who has kept an extremely low profile since leaving the Chili Peppers back in 2009. In his time away from his old band, Frusciante has recorded two solo albums, as well as a number of albums with Swahili Blonde, which is fronted by John’s wife Nicole Turley.
Since there are no details as to what Frusciante’s contribution to the new Duran Duran album consists of, one can only speculate. It sure sounds like this might be the first step towards John’s re-emergence in the spotlight. I’m sure many Chili Peppers fans with me would love to see him back in the band one day and this might be a step in the right direction. Stay tuned!
