Kings of Leon Caught Live in England

Over the years, Kings of Leon have performed at some of the UK’s biggest and most iconic venues, so it was hardly a surprise when just before Christmas; they announced that they would play to a 45,000 strong audience at the outdoor Milton Keynes Bowl. To call the event a concert, would be massively underselling it. With support from The Last Internationale, Twin Atlantic and Haim – the garage-rocking quartet practically commandeered their own mini-festival.

Although KOL peppered the set fairly evenly with their extensive back catalogue, the focus was very much on their latest record, ‘Mechanical Bull’ which topped the UK charts upon its release. After opening with ‘Supersoaker’, much of the audience were treated to first time live performances of sister tracks also including ‘Don’t Matter’, ‘Beautiful War’, ‘Temple’ and ‘Family Tree’. The band let the music do most of the talking, but Caleb Followill paused to gentle converse with the crowd sporadically, humbly expressing gratitude for their loyalty and to thank those who had shared the stage earlier in the day. The thirst for Kings of Leon’s talents in the flesh is seemingly unquenchable – they have attained a captive audience who will walk through hell and high-water, to go and see them time and time again.
