Metallica celebrated the return of their dedicated SiriusXM radio channel with a special show at the world-famous Apollo Theater in New York City on Saturday night.
The 1,500-strong crowd was treated to a set of Metalli-classics as well as a few more recent tracks. Mandatory Metallica is playing Metallica music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, commercial-free through October 6 via satellite on channel 111 (Liquid Metal channel).
Fans can also listen online at siriusxm.com and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App on smartphones and tablets on channel 714. Mandatory Metallica will continue to be available online through the Summer of 2014.
Metallica also performed "Enter Sandman" on Sunday September 22 at Yankee Stadium in New York in honor of retiring Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera. For years Rivera has been coming out of the bullpen to the thunderous roar of "Sandman" on the stadium's P.A. system, so it was a fitting farewell to have the band playing the song live.
