Black Sabbath recently enjoyed a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart with their new studio album, 13, and now, singer Ozzy Osbourne is opening up about the recording process behind the set.
Osbourne says producer Rick Rubin helped the band go back to their early days and, in the process, make an album that sounds more like Black Sabbath’s debut than previous releases.
“He just said forget formula, just forget it,” Osbourne said in a recent press conference (via Blabbermouth). “I couldn’t for the life of me understand what he was trying to say. I’d go to him, ‘Rick, I don’t really understand what you’re trying to do. We are heavy metal, we’re supposed to be the godfathers of heavy metal, so what are you saying?’ And he said, ‘Just go listen.’”
