Paul McCartney delivered a surprise performance in New York’s Times Square yesterday afternoon (Oct. 10).

As reported by Rolling Stone, the former Beatle arrived in a convoy of yellow taxi cabs, and then stepped onto a makeshift stage constructed on a flatbed truck. “I'll put a little hat out here later--we're basically busking,” he said, joking with those who had gathered for the impromptu show.

McCartney performed four songs from New, his forthcoming album slated for release October 15. “Let's try and do this the same time tomorrow,” he said. “We only have 15 minutes up here. Andy Warhol predicted I would get 15 minutes of fame.” A large crowd witnessed the performance, alerted by a message McCartney tweeted earlier in the day.
