Former Guns N’ Roses Guitarist to Perform National Anthem at NFL Game

Russell Hall
Gilby Clarke

Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke is set to perform the national anthem at an NFL game in Tampa this Sunday (Oct. 21). Start time for the game, which pits the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the visiting New Orleans Saints, is 1 p.m. EST.

Clarke’s three-year stint in Guns N’ Roses began in November 1991, when he replaced Izzy Stradlin. His first post-GNR album, Pawnshop Guitars, earned effusive praise, and he’s since forged a successful solo career. Artists with whom Clarke has worked through the years include Heart, Slash’s Snakepit, and Nancy Sinatra.

This past April, he joined GNR members Slash, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler and Matt Sorum on-stage at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Accompanied by singer Myles Kennedy, the band performed three songs from Guns N’ Roses’ landmark Appetite for Destruction album.
