Well, it looks like Green Day’s not-so-secret “secret” show is off.
The punk rock trio were planning a free “secret” gig for Friday in Burbank, California, but on Wednesday (June 20), the band announced that the show was canceled because city officials wouldn’t let the band have the necessary permits for the concert, due to concerns for the safety of the likely huge number of attendees.
Green Day’s next live performance will be at Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival on August 18. They’ll make their way back to the U.S. this fall to headline the annual Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans, which is scheduled for October 26-28.
In other Green Day news, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently told Rolling Stone magazine the band’s upcoming album’s sound is along the lines of power pop: “We wanted something punchier, more power pop – somewhere between AC/DC and the early Beatles.”
