Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein on Her Love of Gibson SGs
Portlandia star, current Wild Flag member and former Sleater-Kinney guitarist-vocalist Carrie Brownstein recently shared her affection for Gibson SGs. The music and comedy star spoke about her instrument of choice when being interviewed by comedian Marc Maron on his podcast, WTF.
Brownstein said that her first guitar was an Epiphone, but was soon drawn to the SG. “Something with the SG, like there’s two devil horns coming out,” she said. “It’s a demon guitar. Angus Young, Pete Townshend…
“I liked the angularity of it and the bluntness of it, I felt like, that was sort of my style of playing and I’ve tried other guitars, but I just like the sound. I like a guitar that has a little bit of growliness to it – one that feels like the harder you play, it will react to that.”
Brownstein and Maron also discussed Marc’s Les Paul TV Junior and Melody Makers, before the Portlandia actress shared her disdain for people who put stickers on their guitars.
So, I guess she’ll never put a bird on it…
