Looking for a gift for the eternal Who fan? Then you may be in luck, as the restored version of Quadrophenia — the 1979 film based on the Who’s classic 1973 rock opera — is out on DVD and Blu-ray this week.
The release offers high-definition video, as well as a new 5.1 surround-sound audio mix supervised by the Who. Those opting for the special-edition packages will also get a bunch of new bonus material: audio remarks from Quadrophenia director Franc Roddam, interviews with Who manager Bill Curbishley and sound engineer Bob Pridden, behind-the-scenes footage and a special booklet with Pete Townshend’s liner notes.
The story of Quadrophenia revolves around a teenager and disillusioned Who fan, Jimmy, living in mid-1960s London, who shares facets of the personalities of the Who’s band members.
