Wikipedia: Aaron Lewis
Neck and Headstock
Neck Species
The neck of the Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo is made from solid mahogany. The mahogany provides superior strength and resonance, contributing to its deep, lush tone.
Tonal Characteristics
A hand-fit, compound dovetail neck joint transfers a maximum of resonant energy from that big mahogany neck to the body. The Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo is crafted from all angles to get you heard in premier style.
Neck Profile
The guitar’s neck is carved to a custom Aaron Lewis-designed “V” profile.
Tolerance
When fitting the neck and body together, we take advantage of our precise measuring equipment so that all angles, pitches and alignments maintain a tolerance within .005 of an inch. Not only does this help to keep your guitar in tune but it also maintains proper string alignment relative to the fingerboard.
Joint
The Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo’s neck, which is secured with hide glue, is attached with a compound dovetail joint, positioned at the 14th fret.
Headstock Shape and Angle
The guitar’s headstock is carved in the style of Gibson’s CF-100 and is pitched at the vintage-correct 17-degree back angle. Every Gibson headstock is carved out of the same piece of mahogany as the neck, then fitted with Gibson’s traditional wing blocks.
Truss Rod
Gibson’s traditional truss rod, found in most all of our guitars, is highly responsive to the individual adjustments you’ll want to make to personalize and optimize string action and sustain.
Logo
A gold decal of the Gibson logo is laid across the top of the Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo’s headstock.
Fingerboard and Nut
Fingerboard Species
The Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo’s neck carries a fingerboard of rosewood. Rosewood is both hardwearing and sonically superlative, adding sweetness and depth to the guitar’s overall sound.
Frets
The fingerboard carries 20 frets, 13 of which are clear of the body.
Fret Wire
Each Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo uses Gibson Montana standard fret wire constructed of nickel alloy for high tonal clarity.
Fingerboard Dimensions
The Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo is built to a 24 & 3/4” scale length, and its fingerboard has a 12-inch radius.
Inlays
The Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo Standard’s fingerboard is inlaid with vintage-style pearloid parallelograms. On the hand-aged model, even the parallelograms have been distressed to reflect years of use.
Nut Width
The width of the nut on the Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo is approximately 1.725”.
Nut Material
The Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo has a genuine bone nut, for optimum resonance and sustain. On the Aged model, the bone nut has been distressed by hand.
