50th Anniversary 1960 Hummingbird Celebrating the Golden Anniversary of a Legendary Acoustic

Just like the original Hummingbirds of the 1960s, the 50th Anniversary 1960 Hummingbird is made with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. The two Custom Shop editions feature exotic rosewood and Grade-AAA Koa respectively for their back and sides. All models benefit from the period-correct touches of Gibson Montana's True Vintage line, with scalloped top bracing and tall/thin back bracing for superb resonance throughout the body.

The neck is made from one piece of quarter-sawn mahogany and carries a select Indian rosewood fingerboard with a scale length of 24 3/4", and is attached with Gibson's traditional compound dovetail joint at the 14th fret for superb tonal depth and sustain. It is carved to a comfortable rounded profile, with a 12" fingerboard radius and a width of approximately 1.725" at the nut. Frets are made from EVO "Gold Tone" wire, which displays the distinctive gold color to celebrate this golden anniversary of this famous icon acoustic.

Elegant cosmetic appointments from the original Hummingbird are all here, including the multi-ply top and back binding, split-parallelogram mother-of-pearl position marker inlays, double-ring rosette, single-ply cream fingerboard binding, and uniquely pastoral engraved "Hummingbird" pickguard, painted with gold on this anniversary model for an even more distinctive look. To highlight these as Limited Edition guitars, however, all will have "50th Anniversary" engraved on the truss-rod cover; in addition, the 200 mahogany body editions will have "50" inlaid in mother-of-pearl on the headstock face, while the 50-each exotic rosewood and Koa models will have "50" inlaid in 18k gold. Gold-plated vintage-Kluson-style Gotoh tuners with pearloid "keystone" buttons grace the headstock, while a genuine bone nut and a genuine bone saddle in the traditional "belly up" Indian rosewood bridge work together to ensure pure warm, ringing, vintage-style tone.

In short, the 50th Anniversary 1960 Hummingbird is the quickest route to that unparalleled vintage square-shouldered dreadnought tone and power, while the Custom Shop Exotic Rosewood and Custom Shop "AAA" Koa editions provide unique and exotic twists on both the look and the sound of this legendary instrument. Lay your hands on one now courtesy of your authorized Gibson dealer, and discover for yourself why this bird of paradise has been an acoustic icon for 50 years.
