Pickups
Pickups Model
The guitars are equipped with a calibrated set of single-coil Gibson U.S.A. P-90 pickups, including a P-90R at the neck and a slightly hotter P-90T at the bridge. These are Gibson’s most accurate vintage P-90 reproductions, made with Alnico V magnets and wound with 42-gauge wire like the originals.
Magnet Material
Gibson’s P-90s are made with two Alnico V bar magnets each, just like originals from the ’50s and ’60s.
Tonal Characteristics
Gibson’s P-90 pickups, as found on original Epiphone Casino guitars from the 1960s, are among the most enduring pickups in the history of the electric guitar. They offer all the output of vintage humbucking pickups, but with a sharper, slightly brighter tone that has plenty of midrange muscle and an appealingly grainy edge to its voice. In the John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casino, these P-90s provide an outstanding blend of bite, warmth, richness and definition.
Electronics
Controls
The John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos uses an independent Volume control each both pickup, which consists of a quality 300K linear potentiometer for a smooth, natural volume roll-off. The guitar also carries two independent Tone controls, each consisting of a 500K non-linear potentiometer and a .022uF tone capacitor for a smooth, natural transition from bright to warm as the control is rolled counter-clockwise.
Toggle Switch
The John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos features a quality all-metal Switchcraft three-way toggle switch for pickup selection.
Output Jack
The guitar features a high-quality Switchcraft 1⁄4" output jack.
