Pickups Models
A BurstBucker 1 is used in the neck position, a BurstBucker 2 in the bridge position, and a Single-Coil Blade pickup is in the middle position. Gibson's BurstBuckers are among the finest reproductions of classic PAF humbucking pickups made today. They are made with unpolished Alnico II magnets and unpotted coils that are wound to slightly different numbers of turns, like the originals. Using two slightly mismatched coils gives a pickup a little more edge—a sound that you could even say comes a little closer to single-coil bite—than can be achieved with perfectly balanced coils. The BurstBucker 1 is slightly underwound to achieve an output toward the lower-medium end of the PAF range, and the BurstBucker 2 has a slightly hotter output toward the hotter end of the PAF scale. The Blade Single Coil is a hot yet clear single-coil pickup that balances great with either of the humbucking or split-coil modes of the BurstBuckers, and provides crisp yet meaty tones on its own. Magnet Material
The BB1 and BB2 both use Alnico II bar magnets; the Blade Single-Coil uses a ceramic 8 magnet. Magnet Material Tonal Characteristics
Paired together, the BB1 and BB2 constitute an extremely versatile humbucking pickup set. In the neck position, the former yields juicy, warm vocal tones with outstanding clarity, while the latter in the bridge position excels at everything from bright jangle through a clean amp to wailing overdrive with outstanding sustain through a high-gain amp. Selected together, the pair gives you everything from funky to greasy, depending upon amp and effects settings. Their split-coil settings offer outstanding single-coil tones that, combined with the Nighthawk's 25 1/2" scale length, excel at everything from twang to jangle, and the in-between settings give funky, round "out of phase" tones that rival those of classic '50s bolt-neck guitars.

Toggle Switch
The Nighthawk Standard 2010 features one five-way Switchcraft toggle switch. Position options are Bridge only, Bridge/Middle, Middle only, Middle/Neck and Neck only. Toggle Switch Output Jack
