The Making of a Gibson USA Guitar
Body
Species
The body of each Dethklok "Thunderhorse" Explorer is crafted from solid mahogany, a light, resonant timber long revered for its outstanding tonal properties.
Tonal Characteristics
Mahogany is known for its excellent depth, warmth and richness, all of which combine in a musical and well-balanced frequency response.
Design
The Dethklok "Thunderhorse" Explorer follows the classic lines of the original Gibson Explorer, introduced as part of the Modernistic Series in 1958.
Available Finishes
Color
The Dethklok "Thunderhorse" Explorer is finished in Silverburst, a distinctive Gibson finish that displays a silver center and black edges.
Silverburst
Surface Texture
The guitar wears a thin grain-textured finish that beautifully shows off the subtle mahogany wood grain beneath the lacquer, and yields a fast, comfortable playing feel on the neck back, too.
Process
TThe Dethklok "Thunderhorse" Explorer is hand-finished in nitrocellulose lacquer in a process that is carefully monitored to ensure minimum build-up. Several thin coats are applied, and a flattening agent is used to reduce sheen.
