Models
Gibson's 495R and 495T mini-humbuckers are each constructed with coils wound directly around their dual ceramic magnets for added clarity and definition. Each coil of the 495R (rhythm) in the neck position is wound with 7,000 turns of 44-gauge wire, while the 495T (treble) has coils wound with 8,500 turns each of thinner 45-gauge wire for a hotter response in the bridge position. Together, they comprise a calibrated set with a well-balanced middle position between pickups.
Magnet Material
Gibson's 495R and 495T both use ceramic bar magnets.
Tonal Characteristics
Used together, the 495R and 495T constitute an extremely versatile humbucking pickup set. In the neck position, the former yields creamy, warm vocal tones with outstanding definition, while the latter in the bridge position excels at everything from bright jangle through a clean amp to wailing overdrive with outstanding sustain through a high-gain amp. Selected together, the pair gives you everything from snappy and round to low-down and greasy, depending upon amp and effects settings.
Electronics
Volume Controls
The Firebird V uses an individual volume control for each pickup, which consists of a quality 300k linear potentiometer for a smooth, natural volume roll-off.
Tone Control
The Firebird V features individual tone controls for each pickup, comprised of 500k non-linear potentiometers with .22mF tone capacitors for a smooth transition from bright to warm.
Toggle Switch
The Firebird V features one three-way Switchcraft toggle switch. In the down position, only the bridge pickup is active. In the middle position, both pickups are active. In the up position, only the neck pickup is active.
Output Jack
The guitar features a 1/4" output jack made by Switchcraft. Its super heavy duty construction holds your guitar cable securely in place.
