Gibson’s iconic Flying V looked like a one-guitar revolution right from the start—so there’s no better platform on which to celebrate a moment in Gibson history that will live on in infamy. Using woods confiscated by the US government that were returned to Gibson once there was a resolution and the investigation ended, the Government Series II Flying V embodied a rock-on attitude, while being a powerful performer by any standards.
The Flying V was way ahead of its time when Gibson first unleashed it in 1958, and it has always been a badge of honor for the most adventurous rockers. The Government Series II embraces and enhances that spirit. The stylishly swooped, solid mahogany Flying V body is dressed in a distinctive vintage-gloss Government Tan finish, complemented by black-chrome hardware, black plastics, and a pickguard hot-stamped in gold with the Government Series II graphic—a bald eagle hoisting a confiscated Gibson guitar neck. Each Government Series II Flying V also includes a genuine piece of Gibson USA history: a solid rosewood fingerboard, made from wood returned to Gibson by the US government after the resolution.
But the Government Series II Flying V’s power is far more than just visual, and it’s a fire-breathing tone monster ready to wreak sonic vengeance. Aided by a pair of Dirty Fingers+ pickups, among the hottest humbuckers Gibson has ever produced, this historic Flying V is ready and willing to take on your own scorched-earth campaign—and to get you noticed in the process! Add a set of high-quality Grover™ tuners, a black hardshell case, a Certificate of Authenticity personally signed by Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, and legendary Gibson quality and craftsmanship: this is one revolutionary Exporer that you’ll want to add to your sonic arsenal. The Government Series II is limited by the availability of qualifying woods, so seize yours now from your authorized Gibson USA dealer.
Body and Neck
The Government Series II Flying V is crafted in the image of the original Flying V and made from solid mahogany, a tonewood acclaimed for its natural resonance and depth. The glued-in mahogany neck features a fast, comfortable ’60s profile, while the unbound fingerboard—with a Corian™ nut, 22 frets and simple dot inlays—is made from solid rosewood returned to Gibson by the US government. The guitar looks superb with its unique Government Tan finish in vintage-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.
Pickups and Electronics
The guitar carries a pair of Gibson’s super-hot Dirty Fingers+ pickups for maximum rock action. Among the most powerful humbuckers Gibson has ever produced, these will drive your amp of choice into über-crunch and singing lead tones, while cleaning up beautifully for subtler moments. They’re mounted “open coil” with no covers, and wired through independent volume controls, a master tone control, and a three-way selector switch.
A classic Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor it all down for outstanding resonance and sustain, while Grover™ tuners represent a significant upgrade up top—all plated in black chrome. Plastics are all black, and the black pickguard is hot stamped in gold with the Government Series eagle graphic.
Cases and Coverage
The Government Series II Flying V comes protected in a black Gibson hardshell case. Backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson’s 24/7/365 Customer Service, the package includes a truss-rod wrench, owner’s manual, and a Certificate of Authenticity personally signed by Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz.
