Neck and Headstock

Neck Species
The neck of the LP-Express is constructed from three pieces of hard maple, an extremely strong, dense wood with a long history as a tonewood used for electric guitar necks. Neck Species
Neck Profile
The neck on the LP-Expresss is carved to the popular SlimTaper™ profile, preferred by countless guitarists for its speed and comfort. Neck Profile
Tonal Characteristics
The solid maple neck, angled headstock, and rosewood fingerboard all contribute to the LP-Express's superior tonal complexity and excellent sustain. The maple in particular adds clarity and bite to counteract the lower string tension of the guitar's shorter scale.
Joint
Epiphone uses a contoured, recessed bolt-on neck, so all frets are easy to access. Neck Joint
Headstock Angle
Just like the original Epiphones of the '60s, and many classic Gibson models, the LP-Express headstock is carefully back-angled to increase string pressure in the nut for improved resonance and sustain.
Truss Rod
The traditional Gibson/Epiphone truss rod, found in most all of our guitars, is highly responsive to the individual adjustments you'll want to make to personalize and optimize string action and sustain. Truss Rod
Logo
The traditional Epiphone logo is inlaid in acrylic mother-of-pearl across the top of the headstock, with "Special Model" silkscreened in gold in the center of the face, and "Express" engraved in the truss-rod cover. Logo
Fingerboard and Nut

Fingerboard Species
The LP-Express carries a rosewood fingerboard, the traditional fingerboard of several classic Epiphone and Gibson models. Rosewood is both hardwearing and sonically superlative, adding sweetness and depth to the guitar's overall sound. Fingerboard Species
Frets
The LP-Express's fingerboard carries 21 medium-jumbo frets, all immaculately dressed and polished, which contribute to the instrument's big tone and easy, bend-friendly playing feel. Frets
Radius
The LP-Express has a 12" radius, which provides excellent playing ease and comfort, and avoids any dead spots or "choking out" of notes while bending strings.
Inlays
The LP-Express's fingerboard carries pearloid dot inlays. Inlays
Nut Width
The width of the nut on the LP-Express is approximately 1.68", in the range of the traditional nut width of great full-sized Gibson and Epiphone electric guitars. Nut Width
