Neck and Headstock
Neck Species
The neck of the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess is constructed from solid mahogany, the most traditional wood for Gibson electric guitar necks.
Neck Profile
The neck on the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess is carved to a comfortable, rounded profile that is full in the hand without being "clubby"—dubbed the Axcess profile by Gibson Custom. Also, the neck joint is scarfed at the heel to allow easier access to the upper frets.
Tonal Characteristics
The angled, classical-style peg head and glued-in mahogany neck work together to provide exceptional tonal richness and sustain.
Joint
Gibson uses what is known as the Mortis & Tenon joint to bind neck to body so that the two pieces form one solid unit. The solid Mahogany neck is hand-fitted into the body with a long-tenon joint that extends well into the neck pickup cavity for maximum tone and sustain.
Headstock Angle
The headstock of the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess headstock is carefully angled at Gibson's traditional 17 degrees, which increases pressure on the strings and helps them stay in the nut slots. An increase in string pressure also means there is no loss of string vibration between the nut and the tuners, which equals better sustain.
Truss Rod
Gibson's traditional truss rod, found in most all of our guitars, is highly responsive to the individual adjustments you'll want to make to personalize and optimize string action and sustain.
Logo
The traditional Gibson logo is inlaid across the top of the headstock face in genuine mother-of-pearl.

Fingerboard and Nut
Fingerboard Species
The Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess carries a rosewood fingerboard, the traditional fingerboard of the original Les Paul Standard. Rosewood is both hardwearing and sonically superlative, adding sweetness and depth to the guitar's overall sound.
Frets
The Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess sports 22 medium-jumbo frets, all immaculately dressed and polished with Gibson's PLEK system.
Tonal Characteristics
Rosewood fingerboards are known for their rich, round tone.
Inlays
The Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess fingerboard carries pearloid trapezoid position-marker inlays, echoing the traditional look of the original Les Paul Standard.
Nut
The Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess carries a Floyd Rose® R4 locking nut with a width of 1.687" (approximately 1 11/16"), the traditional nut width of Gibson electric guitars.
Radius
The 12" radius of the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess fingerboard provides smooth note bending capabilities and eliminates "dead" or "choked out" notes, common occurrences on fingerboards with lesser radiuses.
