Body
Species
The body of each Randy Rhoads 1974 Les Paul Custom is crafted from a three-piece figured maple top attached to a three-piece mahogany-maple-mahogany body, just like the great "sandwich" Les Pauls of the early '70s. Body Species
Tonal Characteristics
The Randy Rhoads 1974 Les Paul Custom's body woods present the classic combination of good clarity, definition and treble bite from the maple, and excellent depth and richness from the mahogany, all of which are elements that are found in the creamy, singing tone of the original '74 Les Paul Custom. The results are unparalleled sustain, outstanding articulation, and a searing lead tone overall.
Design
The Randy Rhoads 1974 Les Paul Custom follows the body lines and dimensions of the original '74 Les Paul Custom, with a gently arched carved top and rounded lower bout, and combines the classic tonewood combination of the era. Body Design

Available Finishes
Color
The Randy Rhoads 1974 Les Paul Custom is finished in a unique "Randy Rhoads White" to replicate the look of an aged Alpine White Les Paul Custom. Randy Rhoads White - VOS Randy Rhoads White - Aged
Surface Texture
The aged version will be aggressively aged to match the wear of Randy's original. The VOS version will have a natural, gently aged feel.
Process
The Randy Rhoads 1974 Les Paul Custom is hand-finished in nitrocellulose in a process that closely replicates the finishing process applied to original Les Paul Standards of 1958-'60. It is finished with minimum build-up, in an effort to produce a finish that breathes with the guitar and enhances natural resonance. Once this is complete, the guitars' finishes will be aged in two distinct ways, to present worn finish textures: 100 guitars will be aged by hand, while a further 200 will be aged in Gibson Custom's VOS process. The results in all cases will be a guitar that looks and feels like a loved and much-played vintage instrument.
