Body
The Dusk Tiger is crafted from a top made of Grade-A marblewood, an elegant hardwood from Suriname in South America, with a high density and an extremely beautiful grain. The marblewood is joined together with strips of ebony, and attached to a tone-chambered mahogany back.
Exotic Design
The Dusk Tiger begins with the timeless lines and proportions of the original Les Paul Standard, but its stunning marblewood-and-ebony top is flat, rather than arched, to present a contemporary update on a classic form. Its mahogany back is chambered using a patented new system that both enhances the tonal response of the guitar and reduces its weight dramatically.
Average Weight
The average weight of a Dusk Tiger body is 5.44 lbs, which results in an extremely comfortable and ergonomic finished guitar.
Chambering
Every Dusk Tiger benefits from Gibson’s proven chambering technique, which leaves each guitar with perfect tone, balance, and weight. Prior to gluing the marblewood-and-ebony cap to the mahogany body, the expert craftsmen at Gibson USA carve out carefully mapped-out chambers in the body using a Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) router.
Finish
The Dusk Tiger wears Gibson’s new Tiger Skin nitrocellulose finish, which employs several new processes to bring out the stunning beauty of the exceptional mahogany used in this model. The marblewood top is enhanced by a rich, natural finish, while the striking dark sides, neck, and unique tiger-striped back are enhanced by a Brilliant Copper finish.
Process
The Dusk Tiger undergoes a more intensive process than most Gibson models to enhance both the look and the sonic benefits of its finish. It is hand-finished in nitrocellulose in a process that is carefully monitored to ensure minimum build-up, in an effort to produce a finish that breathes with the guitar and enhances natural resonance.
Tonal Characteristics
The marblewood-and-ebony top presents much of the density and definition of maple, with plenty of clarity in the highs and firmness in the lows, but with its own enhanced tonal depth. The mahogany back brings in that wood’s legendary blend of warmth and sweetness, while together they work to create a guitar with impressive sustain, too.
Final Setup
The Dusk Tiger is set up for optimum playability with a PerfectSetup™ by the revolutionary, computer-controlled PLEK system, which has been acknowledged as the most precise guitar set-up technology in the world today.
