You Never Even Called Me By My Name
Jordan Phillips, lead singer and guitar player for the Kicks, teaches "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" by the country western outlaw, David Allen Coe. Coe is well known for his outlandish lyrics and southern charm, and this song is no exception.

Steve Goodman and John Prine wrote the song, which Goodman claimed to be the "perfect country song." Coe disagreed with him due to the songs exclusion of "mom, trains or trucks, or prison, or getting drunk." Goodman then added the final verse. The song became the third single off of Coe's album, Once Upon a Rhyme. This was his first top 10 song and peaked at #8 on the country charts in June of 1975.

Jordan plays a Gibson Acoustic Hummingbird in the lesson.
