The British Music Experience, the new national museum of Popular Music at The O2, in London has been honored with a Special Commendation Award at the prestigious European Museum of the Year Awards 2011.

The European Museum of the Year Awards are the most prestigious museum awards in Europe. In 2010, over 40 museums applied and were primarily assessed on their public quality – the extent to which a museum satisfies the needs and wishes of its visitors.

Within the British Music Experience is the popular Gibson Interactive Studio, a fully interactive zone that offers visitors an opportunity to play on various Gibson and Epiphone guitars, Slingerland drums and Wurlitzer digital pianos. Visitors are given step-by-step video tuition featuring artists such as K.T. Tunstall, The Magic Numbers and Amy Macdonald. The Gibson Interactive Studio also houses a Sennheiser sponsored vocal booth to add to the educational and interactive experience.

Chairman of the British Music Experience, Harvey Goldsmith CBE said:

"I am delighted that the British Music Experience has been honored with this most prestigious award and ranked amongst the very best museums in Europe. This is especially significant given the unique way in which the museum has been created and its approach to presenting the subject matter. I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the project, including our valued partners for their extraordinary support."
