Arlen Roth

Delighted to continue to report on the development of this wonderful project, and also so proud to be a part of it, along with my daughter, Lexie Roth, who sang on this wonderful new album. The other night, in NYC at the Iridium Club, where Les Paul had “held court” for so many years, we all got to celebrate the release of Lou Pallo’s wonderful project with the Les Paul Trio called “Thank you Les”, a true tribute to the man himself, said as only so many great artists can say it; with their music!

We tried to evoke Les’ spirit with this album, and I chose to record Mr. Sandman, which of course, is the kind of song that was right up Les’ alley, and my daughter Lexie got to sing the incredible “Vaya Con Dios”, which was such a huge hit for Les and Mary back in the early ‘50s! It was a joy to record, and most everything was cut live to tape, with almost no overdubs at all! (a funny twist, considering we were paying tribute to the man who invented overdubbing and multi-track recording!) What’s also great about this is the positive spirit of all those involved. We seem to have become like a big family….Les’ family! We are all becoming friends, and I’ve certainly made a lot of new ones such as Eddie Brigati of The Rascals, the great singer Blondie Chaplin, producer Ben Elliot, and bassists Paul Nowinski, Nicki Parrott, Gary Mazziroppi and Jay Leonhart. Not to mention that I get to play on the same album as such heavyweights such as Keith Richards, Billy F. Gibbons, Jose Feliciano, Steve Miller, Bucky Pizzarelli, Johnny A., Slash, Lou Pallo and so many more!

We are all united by our love, respect and thanks for what the great Les Paul meant to us and the world of music, and he is a man who’s contributions will grow and grow over the years, and whose importance is on the level of Thomas Alva Edison, or even an Albert Einstein!

The concert/release party we had the other night was truly magical, and something not to be missed. It was as if the entire world of music had come together in one harmonious chord to sing the praises of Les and all he had done. We shared stories, made new friends, and also, through this album have helped leave our own indelible mark on the world of music by leaving behind this “album for the ages!”

Gibson.com’s Arlen Roth, affectionately known The King of All Guitar Teachers, is music lesson pioneer and the quintessential guitarist. An accomplished and brilliant musician — and one of the very few who can honestly say he’s done it all — Roth has, over the course of his celebrated 35-year career, played on the world’s grandest stages, accompanied many of the greatest figures in modern music and revolutionized the concept of teaching guitar.
