Dave Grohl has released a sneak preview of his forthcoming film documentary, Sound City. As previously reported, the film chronicles the legacy of Sound City, the iconic recording studio located in Van Nuys, California, where several classic albums were made. The just-released trailer for the film, which you can watch below, features interviews and recording footage of Tom Petty, Metallica, Trent Reznor and other high-profile artists who have recorded through the years at the legendary facility. Grohl was inspired to make the film after he purchased the studio’s Neve 8028 mixing console, following the facility’s closure in May of last year. Nirvana recorded their breakthrough album, Nevermind, at Sound City during the summer of 1991. The Sound City documentary will debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
